As summer heats up (everywhere but in SoCal😎) and schools are out, we start to think about taking some time off to enjoy the fruits of our business labors. For many business owners, this becomes a difficult task. Either they work insanely hard to cram their entire month into a couple of weeks so that they can leave or they spend the entire vacation time worrying about not working or worse, fielding calls and emails. Is that you?
Building a business that can survive your 3- or 4-week vacation requires some planning and systems be in place. Whether you are a small 1-to-2-person shop, you’re the rainmaker, or you’re building a team around you, it is totally possible to step away from your business and it continues to run without you. Doesn’t that sound nice?
Here are some ways that you can do this.
Don’t act like a solopreneur. If you are still trying to do everything in your business, the business will stop while you are away. First of all, stop doing everything! If you can bring on team members and leverage their time and skills, they can do some of the work while you’re gone. Team members don’t have to be full-time employees, they can be part-time, task-oriented, or even contracted workers.
Automate Your Company. With all of the tech available from funnels to AI, you should be able to automate many of your repeated tasks. Such as marketing, follow-ups, sales, onboarding, delivery, shipping, billing, customer service, ordering, and just about everything. Anything that you can set up a process for can be automated. This frees up your time and allows your business to continue while you are away.
Set Your Business Up For Success. Build your company around itself and not you. Your offerings can be able to be delivered by others. Even if you are the expert and attractive character of your company. Others can still deliver on your promises on your behalf. Your offering can be systemized and taught to your team. This allows for growth, scaling, saleability, and most important…time away for you, the founder.
